Description

All climbing crags from Valchiavenna to the Engadin. With more than seventy suggestions, this guide covers a vast area with immense climbing opportunities, for every taste, difficulty and season.

After a long period of stagnation, there has been a real boom in the last 15 years and numerous new climbing gardens and multipitch routes at high and medium altitudes have been developed and established. The Uschione climbing garden with its considerable development and the sunny wall of Strem in Val Bodengo stand out in particular, where, in addition to a historic route by the Paolo Cogliati and Nicola Noè rope team, plenty of other new routes were opened up in the 2000s.

This region, steeped in history and famous for its natural landscapes, with the two major Alpine passes of Maloja and Splügen and countless opportunities for outdoor sports, is certainly an ideal destination for all climbers, sports and nature lovers.

Simone Manzi, born in Chiavenna in 1992, was already out and about in the mountains with his parents at a young age. He started climbing and skiing at the age of 19 and ski mountaineering and ice climbing followed over the course of the next two years. He has been a member of the Guardia di Finanza mountain rescue service since 2015 and is currently completing his mountain guide course. He has climbed in the Dolomites and on Mont Blanc, but above all at home, in Valchiavenna and Valmasino, where he feels most at home, on walls and routes that are often far from the crowds. He has already opened up several routes and is also busy rediscovering and renovating old routes.
