Description

The Three Peaks are one of the landmarks of the Dolomites.

These tall, slender pinnacles with their shadowy and steep cliff walls attract immense interest whilst being met with absolute respect. If you are planning to climb in these vertical or overhanging walls, then you should know how to cope with poor rock quality, be experienced and also have some mental resilience. In the early years of alpinism, these spires were the target of illustrious names in the international mountaineering scene. Many of them have left their mark in the form of new routes, first repetitions, winter ascents, solo ascents or even enchainements. Over 100 routes are described in this guide: Classic, legacy, technical routes and new, modern sport climbing lines. Many of the routes have been repeated by the authors, who are themselves experienced climbers and mountaineers. The main aim of this guide is to provide a platform for the demanding, lesser-known routes, so that they are not altered out of ignorance or perhaps even paved over with drill hooks. Erik vab, born 1970, lives in Trieste, is married and has two children.

His alpine career covers the entire spectrum of mountaineering: sport climbing, classic and modern routes, traditionally secured lines, solo ascents, climbing competitions, new tours, waterfall climbing, drytooling, ice and mixed routes as well as expeditions. In his 20 years as a mountaineer he has climbed over 500 times. He works with various media, holds lectures, is a member of the Slovenian minority in Italy and speaks seven languages. Svab is an honorary member of CAAI, the Academic Alpine Club of Italy. Since having children, his greatest challenge has been to balance his ambitious alpinism aims with family and career.
