The Rother Altmühltal hiking guide describes 50 varied hikes in the heart of Bavaria, between the Bavarian Jura, Franconian Alb and Franconian Lake District.</p> <p <p>Most of the walks are in the extensive Altmühltal Nature Park. Its foothills stretch from Nuremberg to Ingolstadt and from Feuchtwangen to Regensburg. Here you will pass through shady beech forests, across barren dry grassland meadows and along calmly flowing waters. Castles, castle ruins and Roman watchtowers line the route. Rock formations form a photogenic backdrop and from the heights, the view sweeps into the distance. The fossil museums, where you can encounter specimens of Archaeopterix, take you back to the distant past: The prehistoric bird was discovered in this area.</p <p>The author Stefan Herbke is made from the Altmühltal. His numerous color photos show the region in all its diversity.
