Description

The Path - Grande Traversata Delle Alpi describes a fifty-day tour of the western Alps over a distance of 650 kilometers: The Grande Traversata delle Alpi (GTA) in Piedmont uses historical paths, starting at the foot of the second highest European mountain and ending in Ventimiglia. It crosses the Pennine, Graian and Cottian Alps as well as the Maritime and Ligurian Alps.

Eberhard Neubronner was awarded the German Alpine Club's literature prize for this work. In addition to the exciting and informative text and numerous pictures, it also contains information on the continuation of the GTA in the south. The no less interesting alternative in the north, from the Anzasca Valley through the Ossola region to Lake Maggiore, is also presented.

Berg & Tal presents the often artfully paved "Great Traverse" to friends of lonely mountain groups as an ideal opportunity to discover evidence of Alpine culture that has long since disappeared elsewhere: unspoilt villages, old alpine pastures, remains of Roman or Napoleonic roads, small chapels and quiet monasteries in the settlement area of the Walser and Waldensians. Not forgetting a wildly beautiful flora with some rare plants.

These details add up to a wonder that has no equal. Thanks to its gentle tourist core, the GTA is spared the crowds. For how much longer? Anyone who chooses it, along with its excellent food and wine, will find this book hard to pass up. Neubronner's book is a stroke of luck. Regardless of whether you experience it in your armchair without a penchant for higher things or pick it up before setting off into the mountain world between Valais and Liguria.
<p
